St Stephens- Audenshaw
The large, grade two listed building church was built in 1846. It has the ability to seat seven hundred and fifty people. The spire alone cost two thousand and nine hundred pounds. The chancel was built later than the rest of the church, in 1899 and it is dedicated to the memory of Reverend Eager. Where there is now a nursing home, once stood the vicarage, originally built in 1889. Lodge Barn- AudenshawLodge Barn is now dilapidated but it is still possible to view the makeup of the building and it is that which makes it so interesting. The bricks in the walls are handmade and the roof is stone flagged. The barn is believed to have been used for threshing, due to the air vents to allow the corn to dry which are still prominant in the brickwork. The grade two listed building sports hand cut wooden beams on its interior, and an owl hole, which solved the problem of vermin. |
