The reserve is one of the oldest R.S.P.B. areas and was presented to Stalybridge by the Cheetham family.

The rest of the park has it's fair share of woodland, but there are also several lawns and stretches of grass, between the flower beds, suitble for ball sports or running about on.

There is a childrens play ground for children up to fourteen, and it is possible to play, both tennis and archery at the clubs within the park.
