dentonDenton dates back at least to the fourteenth century, as it is mentioned in documents of that date.  In the 1660's it was a large village with a population of five hundred and it grew until in 1950, over twenty five thousand people lived there.  During the latter time period, Denton had become a suburb of Manchester.

St Lawrences Church is probably the most famous and interesting building in Denton.  It is a striking black and white building that dates from 1550.  Hyde Hall was a sixteenth century building, but in the next hundred years it was altered by being faced in brick.  The hall belonged to the Hyde family of Denton, who were related to those from the nearby town of Hyde. The most famous member of the Hyde family being Anne, wife to James II and mother of Queen Anne. The whole estate at one time comprised of one hundred and ninety one acres.  Victoria Park with it's newly restored band stand makes a lovely day out in the summer, especially for the children.
denton marketDenton has a large market although not as big as Ashton.  It can be traced back to 1893, when there was only one market day a week.
