The area of Park Bridge was a textile industrial settlement during the nineteenth century. The Fairbottom branch of the canal park bridgeran halfway to Park Bridge and then a tram continued through to the settlement.

There are still many obvious traces of the area's history to be seen in the restored buildings and the railway line, as well as the Heritage Centre, which concentrates on exactly this subject.

There is a local history trail around the grounds of the centre, which have been redesigned as a park, with flower beds and seating. Park Bridge serves as the main centre for the Countryside Warden Service in the Tame Valley.
